Rochelle (Shelly) Cohen
Shelly grew up in Philadelphia, the daughter of Louis Samuel Forman and Yetta Forman (Stein). She has an older brother, Jerry Forman, and a younger brother, Jeffery Forman. She was a “cute” young girl who never appreciated being told that. Thanks to two friends fixing them up, she met the love of her life, Allan Cohen. Their first date was memorable, but mostly because she fell asleep. Surprisingly, he asked her out again, and the rest is, as they say, history. They were married on June 21, 1964, the day of Phillies’ pitcher Jim Bunning’s perfect game (which they watched until the last pitch before getting married). She had lots of friends and was always an armchair psychologist (hanging her shingle), helping others with their problems and coming up with workable solutions.
Shelly and Allan made a life for themselves in Northeast Philadelphia. In 1966, she gave birth to David Sean Cohen, and two and a half years later, a daughter, Randi Lynn Cohen (Sherwood). She was a perfect mom, always cheering David on in his baseball leagues, shopping and laughing with Randi and her mom, Yetta at Neshaminy Mall, helping them with their teenage angst and supporting them through the good and the bad of growing up. She was mom to most of their friends.
Shelly spent most of her career in banking, from GSB to Bank of America and others. She always told people she was a terrible teller, so they promoted her to manager. She loved her job, which is not surprising; she was great with customers and thrived at managing people.
Randi married Edward Sherwood on October 18, 1992, and David married Patricia (Trish) Cippola on May 21, 1995.
Shelly’s greatest love, though, is being Bubbie to her grandchildren. Randi and Ed had Madison (1996) & Brendan (1998). David & Trish had Zachary (1997), Shayna (1999), and Matthew (2003). Not only was she Bubbie to her 5 grandchildren, she was Bubbie to all of their friends and their families. She was a frequent fan at every soccer, softball, football, baseball, hockey game, and art show, happily talking to all of the parents, grandparents, and siblings.
Shelly moved from Philadelphia to Newtown, PA 1990 and then moved often, living in Warrington, Warminster, and Langhorne, until she and Allan retired as snowbirds in Delray Beach, Florida, and Margate, New Jersey.
Shelly isn’t one for hobbies, but she has needlepointed, knitted, and played mahjong over the years. Always the picture taker, you will hear her complain that she’s not in any pictures because she was always the one behind the camera. Then, when she is in the picture, she will complain that it’s not a good one (haha). An avid techy, she is always upgrading to the latest and greatest thing to come out. A huge Philadelphia sports fan, she passed along her love of baseball and hockey to the whole family. She is an active participant on every family group chat, “Philly Sports Review”, which is exactly what you’d expect from a Philadelphia sports fan, a roller coaster ride of the “Best Team Ever” or the “Worst Team Ever” depending on the latest play or mistake.
Shelly is loving, caring, opinionated (in the best way possible), kind, and would do absolutely anything for her family. She is the best wife, mom, and Bubbie, need we say more?
