Edward Emmons
Edward Emmons was born on September 12, 1938, in Plainfield, New Jersey. From a young age, Edward had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether it was fishing, hunting, hiking, or skiing, he found peace and joy in nature. In high school, he was a dedicated athlete, playing left end on the football team, where he was known for his strong defensive play and team spirit.
Edward’s passion for the outdoors extended beyond personal enjoyment—he was committed to sharing it with others. He proudly led the Junior Sportsmen’s Program run by the New Jersey Chapter of Trout Unlimited, where he mentored young anglers through fly-tying courses and fly-casting clinics. His leadership in this program left a lasting impression on the local outdoor community.
His sense of service and duty led him to enlist in the U.S. Army in August 1957. He was stationed at Fort Gordon and served honorably until his discharge in September 1966.
Edward worked as a sales consultant for Cortland Line Company, where he was known for his reliability and easygoing nature. He met the love of his life, Joan Sisco, while helping a mutual friend move into her apartment in Whippany, New Jersey. Their connection was immediate, and they were married on April 10, 1964, at the Morris Plains Presbyterian Church.
They built a life together in Morris Plains, close to dear friends, and welcomed their cherished daughter, Kimberly Joan, on March 13, 1968. Ed tried to pass on his love of the outdoors and nature—often accompanied by their loyal and well-trained German Shepherd, Sheba.
Edward’s life was tragically cut short when he passed away unexpectedly on June 14, 1971. Though his time was brief, his legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for the natural world lives on in his wife Joan and daughter Kim. His memory is carried forward not just in their hearts, but in the lives of those he inspired through his leadership, friendship, and unwavering spirit.
